Ayush Goyal is a fine-art photographer working in the visual-art tradition, but his ambition is bigger than the screen. As he puts it, he wants a photograph seen "not as a collection of pixels on a 6 inch screen, but as a fine art print." Every image in his KalaCUBE collection is produced as an archival pigmented print on acid-free, 100% cotton-rag fine art paper — an object made to be lived with rather than scrolled past, and made to last.

His subject is the Himalaya, approached from two directions. He zooms deep into landscapes "to show the incredible details, as a metaphor for the different textures of life," and he turns his lens toward "people who work with their hands and bodies, to show what was always essentially a part of 'being human.'" You can feel both instincts across works like Pine, Flock Across Glacier, Kibber, Dirt Hill, Blue Mountain and Dark Side Mountain — mountain light and high-altitude texture, each held still and printed with real archival care. The titles alone trace a walk through the high country: a lone tree, a glacier crossed by birds, a village, a hillside caught in shifting light.
