“Life lesson: Don't look at your work for too long, lol.”
Born in Doon, majority of my personality is my love for the mountains. I paint with watercolours and occasionally it turns out decent.
Born in Doon, Marlyn Bedi carries the mountains with her — by her own account, a large part of who she is comes from her love of them. She is a visual artist who paints with watercolours, and she describes her practice with a disarming lightness: she paints, and occasionally, she says, it turns out decent.
That easy humour sits alongside a real feel for the medium. Watercolour rewards exactly the kind of unhurried, intuitive attention she brings to it — the willingness to let pigment and water find their own way across the paper. Her headline offers a small studio wisdom of its own: "Don't look at your work for too long."
Her painting Koi, worked in watercolour, is a fine introduction to that sensibility — a hand-painted image that trusts softness and flow over rigid control. It is a quiet, human piece, made without pretension.
Marlyn is part of the community of makers gathered by KalaCUBE, which grew from Musée Living's Musée Art Café in Dehradun into a home for real, handmade art. We warmly invite you to explore her watercolours and, if one draws you in, to give it a place on your wall. See more at kalacube.com/artist/marlyn_bedi.
