Monika Thakur

Monika Thakur works across two dimensions on KalaCUBE — visual art and handicraft — and both grow out of the same place. "Born and brought up in Himalayan range of INDIA (Himachal Pradesh)," she writes, she paints in "acrylic, oil medium and still exploring more," and is "pursuing BFA from JLN fine arts college Shimla." She has been painting for four years, and adds, "I am a craft person too — I like to create things." That double instinct, to paint and to make, defines her whole collection.

On the canvas, her landscapes carry that mountain upbringing: Serenity and Waterfall are acrylic on canvas, and Flow is worked in oil colour, all of them landscape studies. Her craft side is just as playful — Milk and cookie and Rice balls keychains are crocheted from mixed acrylic yarn, alongside a crocheted Bottle holder. Set side by side, the serene painted vistas and the cheerful little crocheted objects show an artist equally at home with a brush and with yarn, and unwilling to choose between them.
