Rashmi Naithani

I was always drawn to nature and people and therefore my paintings mostly reflect that. The urge to capture beauty forever in the form of a painting drives me to pick up my paint brush and a canvas. be it flowers or the lovely birds or even people. I try to find inspiration in everything around me.

Rashmi Naithani is a painter based in Dehradun, working in the visual-art tradition with a naturalist's eye. "I was always drawn to nature and people," she writes, "and therefore my paintings mostly reflect that." What moves her is "the urge to capture beauty forever in the form of a painting" — "be it flowers or the lovely birds or even people" — and she says she tries "to find inspiration in everything around me."

Her collection moves fluidly between subjects and moods. The Venice Window and little Birdies are watercolours, the latter on 100% cotton paper; Gratitude and Enlightment are oil colours on canvas, the first themed around Uttarakhand culture and the second around the spiritual; and Rustic is another cotton-paper watercolour rich in texture. Her Musée Living feature describes an artist who "moves fluidly between subjects and moods, letting each piece find its own voice," with works that are "specific, imperfect, and utterly original" — there is, as it puts it, "no dataset behind 'Gratitude.'"
