Surekha Gandhi

Surekha Gandhi is a Dehradun-based visual artist for whom painting is second nature. "Painting is not new to me," she writes. "I love to splash colours in various forms — water colour, oil colour, acrylic and pigments." She moves easily between "abstract, real life, stills and traditional" forms, drawn by the way art "takes me into realms of visionary imaginary world" and leaves, in her words, "a deep impact on me."

Her contemporary figures carry that sense of movement and reverie. Ballerina with violin, Senorita, Bella, Autumn, Purple Hues and Dancing lady are all acrylic on canvas — a suite of graceful, colour-rich portraits and figures that share a single expressive mood. Read together they feel like variations on a theme of poise and motion, the palette shifting from autumnal warmth to cool purples while the dancer's grace stays constant. As her motto has it: "Let there be Art..."
